Mother of St. Landry Parish shooting victim says she tried to save his life
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a Saturday night shooting that left one person dead. The family of the victim identifies him as 24-year-old Kendrick Lewis.
The shooting was reported around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Honey Lane. Authorities said when they arrived, they found one man who was fatally injured.
Kendrick's mother, Stacy Lewis, said she remembers hearing her daughter's friend calling out Kendrick's name, before going outside and seeing his body on the ground. She said she tried to administer CPR but was unable to revive him.
"I couldn't find out where the blood was coming from. Kendrick didn't bother nobody, nobody, the peacemaker," Lewis said.
Kendrick's grandfather, Robert Williams Jr., said he wants all parties involved to be charged.
"They all should be charged, this was uncalled for, all he did, he walked out just to tell them to hold the noise down, and to get off of private property," Williams said.
Kendrick's family said they will always remember him for being the comic of the family and having a smile that could brighten anyone's day.
"That boy was happy. His smile, if he could of went and be a comedian, that was him, that was him," Lewis said.
The family sends a message to the suspects to turn themselves in.
"Turn yourself in, whoever did it needs to turn themselves in. This case will not go unsolved, this will not be a cold case. I got too much blood running through my veins, and its hot, turn yourself in please," Lewis said.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office or St. Landry Crime Stoppers.
