Good riddance day in Times Square: Bidding farewell to 2025
NEW YORK (PIX11) – 2025 is just around the corner.
With it comes a slew of New Year's resolutions.
But for many people, it also means letting go of the past.
People gathered in Times Square for Good Riddance Day on Saturday to do just that.
Brenda Pallessi, a school nurse from Parsippany, NJ, was one of them.
Pallessi said good riddance to disrespectful people, political pain, and uncaring coworkers, family, and friends.
For the second year in a row, Tamara Lift says good riddance for good to her sister Danielle’s cancer.
Litt says, “It does good things for your mind and just makes you feel like you’re putting positive actions toward a good year coming forward.”
The Times Square Alliance has been hosting Good Riddance Day for 18 years.
People’s wishes were even projected onto the One Times Square building this year.
“New Year's is about reflecting on the past,” said Tom Harris, the President of the Times Square alliance. “Saying goodbye to things, and not bringing them into the new year, but bringing some things with you.”
Anita Viola, 55, from Windsor Terrace Brooklyn, was also there.
She’s saying goodbye to physical pain.
“It’s good to let go, start fresh, and be positive with a new perspective on life. You persevere and go on and move ahead, and embrace the new year. We’re all here. Let’s all live and enjoy life,” she said.
All of these attendees say that while they are saying goodbye to some things, they also welcome 2025 with open arms.
