Shawnee Co. theft, police chase end in arrest
SHAWNEE CO. (KSNT) - A 52-year-old Topeka man is in custody following a theft and police chase.
The Shawnee County Sheriff's Department said in a release it was notified of a theft at a business near the 2600 block of NW Rochester road around 9:15 Friday night.
A deputy tried to pull the suspect over near NW 46th and Topeka boulevard but the driver took off. The chase ended at NW 39th and Button road with the fleeing vehicle on it's side. The man and a female passenger were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Once the man is released from the hospital, he'll be booked on the following charges:
- Aggravated battery
- Flee or attempt to elude law enforcement
- Driving while license suspended
- Numerous traffic offenses
The release said Topeka Police handled the female passenger regarding the initial theft.
The Sheriff's office said the incident is still under investigation.
