Police search Newport home as part of missing persons investigation
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police searched a Newport home as part of a missing person investigation, authorities said.
The Newport Police Department said they executed the search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Northwest 7th Street at about 7 a.m. Friday.
Officials said the investigation is active and no further information can be shared. However, police said there is no threat to the community.
Neighbors told KOIN 6 News they saw SWAT teams surround the home with police dogs in action and officers taking at least two people into custody.
Neighbor David Martinez said he saw police with "a public works truck with a flatbed trailer" and believes officers were digging behind the house.
"It's kind of crazy because, you know, you just don't expect to be in your neighborhood or on your street," said neighbor Johan Martinez.
KOIN 6 News has reached out to the Newport Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and the Lincoln County District Attorney's Office for more information and we will update this story if they tell us more.
