St. Martinville man faces charges in fatal Duson crash
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A St. Martinville man was arrested in connection with a fatal two-vehicle crash in Duson that claimed the life of a 38-year-old Texas woman, Louisiana State Police announced.
In a news release, state police said 33-year-old Brandon Adams was arrested yesterday in connection with the Oct. 28 crash that resulted in the death of Ashley Campbell.
Troopers said toxicology samples collected from Adams revealed that illegal narcotics were present in his system at the time of the crash.
Adams faces one count each of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, careless operation, child passenger restraint, seatbelt restraint and operating a vehicle while license is suspended.
Troopers said the crash occurred on I-10 West, just east of Highway 343 in Lafayette Parish, and was reported just before 1 a.m. on Oct. 28.
According to a previous news release, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz was traveling in the right lane on I-10 West when it struck the rear of an unknown commercial motor vehicle. After the collision, the Hyundai drove off the roadway to the right and the commercial motor vehicle continued westbound on I-10.
Campbell was a passenger of the Hyundai and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, later identified as Adams, and a juvenile were taken to a nearby hospital. Troopers said Adams and Campbell were unrestrained.
