World's top golfer sidelined from PGA tour by Christmas dinner injury: report
A freak Christmas dinner injury sidelined the world's top golfer from the PGA tour, CNN reported Friday evening.
“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie [Scheffler] sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass,” said Blake Smith, the manager for Scheffler, in a statement. “Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.”
According to the report, Scheffler is expected to recover in three to four weeks.

It's a dramatic cap-off to a season that has cemented Scheffler in the history books of the sport, wrote Thomas Schlacter for CNN: "On the links, Scheffler has been on a streak that most golfers can only dream of. In April, he won the Masters before going on to win gold at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. In total, Scheffler won seven events on the PGA Tour in 2024, including the TOUR Championship. Scheffler also won the Hero World Challenge and helped lead Team USA to its tenth straight win at the Presidents Cup."
But the season has not been without chaos. In May, Scheffler was arrested after a bizarre incident where he tried to dodge traffic controls at the PGA Championship in Valhalla and allegedly dragged a police officer with his car. Despite that incident, he managed to fire a five-under-par 66 at that competition.
"I still feel like my head is spinning a little bit but I was fortunate to be able to make it back out and play some golf," he said of the day's events. "I've kept myself in the tournament now with a pretty chaotic day."
