Attorney for ex-NYPD Chief Maddrey denies sexual misconduct allegations
NEW YORK (PIX11) – An attorney for former NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey spoke publicly Friday for the first time since Maddrey abruptly resigned a week ago amid sexual misconduct allegations.
At a press briefing, Maddrey’s attorney Lambros Lambrou denied all sexual misconduct allegations against his client, while also saying Maddrey had a “consensual adult relationship” with his accuser, Quathisha Epps.
Maddrey did not speak at the press briefing. His attorney said he wants to set the record straight amid allegations that he traded overtime for sexual favors from Epps.
He claims Epps is being investigated by NYPD Internal Affairs for putting in for overtime that she never completed and that making these allegations is her way of deflecting from her wrongdoings.
Maddrey abruptly resigned as the NYPD’s chief of department last week amid the allegations. Epps said in a complaint that when she pushed back at Maddrey’s alleged sexual misconduct, he retaliated by claiming she was abusing overtime to make more than $400,000 last fiscal year – more than half of it overtime.
Maddrey has been the subject of other sexual misconduct allegations in the past. His attorney said Maddrey resigned because he’s been through this before and has reached his boiling point.
"Now Jeff resigned and retired upon hearing of this last meritless complaint, as he's been through this before. The city has enough going on without these allegations swirling around the chief of department. He’s given 34 years of his life to the NYPD and has been repeatedly sued meritlessly," Lambrou said.
PIX11 News reached out to an attorney for Epps and is still waiting to hear back.
