Suspect arrested during attempted carjacking investigation in Troutdale
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Law enforcement arrested a person accused of attempted carjacking at gunpoint — with what was later discovered to be a replica BB gun — in Troutdale, authorities said.
Victor Salgado-Almazan, 32, was arrested and accused of multiple charges related to the attempted carjacking, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies said they responded after an attempted carjacking at gunpoint involving two victims took place at the TA parking lot at 790 NW Frontage Rd around 1:40 p.m.
"[The suspect] ran from the scene as Multnomah County Sheriff;s Office Patrol Deputies responded, however, a short time later he was found hiding in a tent nearby," officials said in a press release.
Though deputies later recovered the weapon and identified it as a BB gun, they noted "that it looked very much like a real gun."
Salfado Almazan was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and faces charges that include second-degree robbery, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, harassment and second-degree criminal mischief.
During the investigation and search for the suspect on Friday afternoon, there was a heavy law enforcement presence in the vicinity of TA, where the attempted carjacking allegedly happened.
