‘Nightbitch’ now streaming on Hulu, ‘The Batman 2’ moves to 2027: Today’s top stories
Gold Derby rounds up today’s top stories in entertainment for Dec. 27, 2024.
UPDATE:
Nightbitch comes barking to Hulu
On Dec. 27, Amy Adams‘ latest awards contender became available to stream for free for Hulu subscribers. Based on the 2021 Nightbitch novel by Rachel Yoder, the big budget film version from writer/director Marielle Heller stars Adams as a stay-at-home mother who starts inexplicably transforming into a dog. Other cast members include Scoot McNairy as her husband, Arleigh Patrick Snowden & Emmett James Snowden as their son, and Zoë Chao as a family friend.
Searchlight Pictures’ horror-comedy has been racking up various awards nominations this season, including for Adams at the Golden Globes and Independent Spirit Awards. Oscars next? As Heller recently told Gold Derby, “[Adams] is so wonderful and she’s so vulnerable, and I feel like she really trusted me.” Watch the video interview below:
Tim Allen spills secrets about Toy Story 5
The fifth edition of the blockbuster Toy Story franchise is getting closer and closer to blasting off. Tim Allen, who has voiced Buzz Lightyear since 1995, reveals to Collider that he has finished his “first five-hour [recording] session” for Toy Story 5, due out on June 19, 2026. “It’s really, really weird to get back in it,” he says about returning to the iconic character. “I don’t really believe it’s about the money. I’m sure they want it to be a success, but that’s not why they did it. Had they not come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have called me and [Tom Hanks, who plays Woody]. It’s really clever.”
Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story franchise is one of the most successful of all time, with five feature films in the can (including the spin-off Lightyear, which notably did not feature Allen), plus multiple television projects, theme park rides, and never-ending merchandise opportunities. Toy Story 5 is written and directed by Andrew Stanton, and produced by Jessica Choi. Toy Story 3 received a rare Best Picture nomination at the Oscars, while the third and fourth installments both won Best Animated Feature.

The Batman 2 delayed an entire year
Send up the Bat-Signal! The sequel to Matt Reeves‘ 2022 box-office smash The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, is moving from Oct. 2, 2026, to Oct. 1, 2027. Warner Bros. made the announcement on Friday. Reeves told Variety on Dec. 18 that he was finishing the script for the sequel and that the plan was to start shooting it “next year.” The first film in Reeves’ reboot series made $369 million domestic and $772 million worldwide and resulted in the hit HBO spin-off The Penguin.
With The Batman 2 pushing back its release, Warner Bros. has slated the latest Alejandro G. Iñárritu film on the vacated date. The untitled movie reportedly stars Tom Cruise as “the most powerful man in the world” who “embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.” The cast also includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed.
Now you can stream ‘Beyoncé Bowl’ whenever, wherever
Did you miss Beyoncé‘s NFL Halftime Show on Christmas Day? Or maybe you just want to watch it again? Well, get ready for some un-Bey-lievable news, because the special is now available to stream on Netflix. As the streamer proclaimed today on social media: “We’re screaming YA YA YA YA YA because BEYONCÉ BOWL, a standalone special, is now on Netflix.”

The “Beyoncé Bowl” performance took place midway through the Dec. 25 game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans at NRG Stadium and lasted more than 12 minutes. Beyoncé performed tracks from her country-inspired album Cowboy Carter with guests that included Shaboozey, Post Malone, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, and Blue Ivy. Viewers who watched the mini-concert live were impressed with its quality, particularly after the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match earlier in the month caused so many streaming issues.
