Elephant Rumblings: MLB streaming free Rickey classics
MLB news roundup
Happy Friday, Athletics Nation! I do hope your holidays have been bright.
Aside from a handful of notable free agent signings around MLB, the baseball world has remained largely fixated on dearly departed A’s legend Rickey Henderson this week. Marcus Thompson II penned a fine tribute for The Athletic that dropped on Christmas Day, which would have been Rickey’s 66th birthday.
MLB is also currently streaming eight classic games featuring Rickey for free. Yes, please!
Other than Santa Claus, Tim Dierkes at MLB Trade Rumors may have been the busiest non-elf on Earth this Christmas. Dierkes compiled several lists of note, including the biggest MLB contracts in history, the largest by average annual value, and the largest ever by team, which reminds us that the A’s are just one of two franchises that have never inked a deal worth at least $100 million.
Dierkes also cataloged the league’s current free agents and those who will hit free agency after the 2025 season. These are fine gifts for those of you in need of a steady diet of baseball through the yule tide.
If you’re looking forward to 2025, it’s right around the corner, and Martin Gallegos at MLB.com has everything you need to know about A’s tickets for their first season in Sacramento. I have to admit that I’m morbidly curious.
Have a wonderful weekend, AN.
