Johnny Depp's Lawyers Reveal 1 Concern They Had Amid His Legal Battle With Amber Heard
Two of the lawyers that Johnny Depp worked with during his legal standoff with Amber Heard revisited the lawsuit and their experience with the actor.
The 61-year-old actor emerged mostly triumphant from a defamation lawsuit against the 38-year-old actress in 2022. If you forgot, he sued her over a 2018 op-ed that she wrote about becoming a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Johnny has denied all allegations that he was abusive in their relationship.
The lawsuit was revisited in an A&E special called Interrogation Raw: Celebrity Under Oath. During the project, two of Johnny‘s lawyers spoke about working with him.
More specifically, one of them revealed a concern that the team had about his behavior when he took the stand to testify.

Johnny‘s lawyers Benjamin Chew and Jessica Meyers participated in the special. During it, Benjamin noted that they were worried that he would lose his temper at the stand.
“The one thing that we’re concerned about is whether he might lose his temper. The other side is gonna do everything possible to get Johnny to show anger,” Benjamin said, via People.
He continued, adding, “One of the things that lawyers try to do on cross-examination is to maintain control of the witness. That’s something that Johnny simply did not allow [Heard's attorney Ben Rottenborn] to do.”
Benjamin also reflected on Johnny making jokes while giving testimony.
“Johnny‘s use of humor really undermined whatever serious point Amber‘s counsel was trying to make,” he said. “We wanted to humanize Johnny before the jury so they could understand why hitting the woman he loved was something that he’s just not capable of.”
As for the actor’s response to the outcome, Benjamin said that “He was elated.”
“He sounded as if the weight of the world was off of his shoulders,” he said. “I mean, he sounded like a kid. He was thrilled.”
