Steve Knowles Memorial game : Saturday, 28 December 2024
This Saturday will see the annual Steve Knowles memorial game. With many returning faces and current players taking to the field, come down to the club for some festive rugby.
The bar will open at 12:45, with the game kicking off at 14:00.
The Club once again holds its annual intra-club game in memory of Steve – ever since his untimely death, the Club has held a game in his memory, attended by representatives of his family who present the trophy to the winning side.
Steve started his rugby career at Driffield School under the help and guidance of John Harrison and Ross Weekes and subsequently at our club. He played alongside the likes of Steve Cooper, Alan Stephenson, Russ Yeadon, the Kitching lads, Rob and John Leason and many more. It is over 40 years ago that the Knowles family lost soon-to-be-engaged Steve, when he was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on the way home.
It would be great if you were able to come along to the game to watch some enterprising ‘Barbarians-style’ rugby played by two club sides. It is a great opportunity to get away from home-based Christmas events, meet up with friends at the Rugby Club, and pay our respects to a former player.
