Bears GM Ryan Poles can't afford to be conservative as he tries to fix 4-12 Bears this offseason
The Bears never imagined they’d be playing meaningless games in December yet again, but there they were Thursday night hosting the Seahawks with nothing at stake. They lost 6-3 in a game that was hard on the eyes.
With one game left next weekend at the Packers, the Bears’ attention has been on next season for a while. Their coaching search has been well underway since firing Matt Eberflus last month, and they should be deep into the vetting process by now.
Here are three takeaways from their game against the Seahawks:
Long shopping list
The book on the 2024 Bears was written long before they took the field against the Seahawks. Quarterback Caleb Williams has work to do this offseason, and general manager Ryan Poles needs four starters on the offensive line, three on the defensive line and reinforcements at running back and safety.
It’s always Stevenson
When Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf sparked an altercation in the second quarter that led to him getting two personal fouls, it was no surprise that Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was at the center of the action. As he furthers his reputation as an instigator, Stevenson will continue to get less benefit of the doubt from the officials.
O-line overhaul
The Bears’ season-long trouble on the offensive line continued Thursday, and the only starters from their original lineup were center Coleman Shelton and Darnell Wright since left tackle Braxton Jones is done for the season and left guard Teven Jenkins was out with a calf injury.
