Two women and a man arrested in murder investigation after man in his 50s dies
Three people were arrested over the suspected murder of a 50-year-old man on Boxing Day in Northern Ireland.
Police received a report of a man being unconscious at a home in the West Street area of Newtownards, a town in County Down, just before 1.50am.
He was rushed to hospital, but nothing could be done to save him and he died shortly after.
Two women, aged 58 and 33, were arrested at the scene while a man, aged 36, was arrested at a nearby address.
They have all been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.
Detective chief inspector Anthony Kelly stressed it is ‘particularly shocking’ that this should happen at Christmas.
He said that the thoughts of ‘our community’ will be with the victim’s family and friends.
Sharing more details about the suspected crime, Kelly added: ‘We received a report that a man was unconscious at a residential property in the West Street area of the town, just before 1.50am.
‘The man, aged 50, was taken to hospital where, sadly, he later passed away. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
‘Two women, aged 58 and 33, were arrested at the scene while a man, aged 36, was arrested at a nearby address a short time ago.
‘They have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody at this time.
‘Our investigation is at a very early stage and we are working to establish the full circumstances around this deplorable incident.
‘Cordons remain in place and local residents will see a visible police presence in the area.’
