Gray Delighted After Derby Victory!
David Gray was “delighted for everyone” as Hibs beat Hearts 2-1 at Tynecastle.
An own goal from Kye Rowles and a second-half strike from Dwight Gayle secured all three points for the Hibees, our first Edinburgh Derby victory away from home since this very day in 2019.
When speaking after the game, Gray expressed his immediate emotions.
“I’m delighted. I’m delighted for everyone involved. It’s been a long time coming, five years since we last won here; that was the message before the game.
“Their ‘keeper had to make some big saves and credit to our players because they responded from being pegged back just before half-time.
“Hearts started the second half better without causing us too many concerns, but I’m delighted we scored and got over the line.
“You could see how much it meant at the end. I’m delighted for everyone.”
At the full-time whistle there was complete elation from the Hibs fans, players, and coaching staff, and our Head Coach gave his thoughts on that.
“It was very special. It’s something I’ve experienced as a player. There’s no better place to win a game of football against your rivals at this time of year.
“You saw at the end, the scenes, the togetherness, the connection between the players and fans.
“We know we’ve got a lot of work to do. We’ve had a real good turn in results and performances, but the attention quickly turns to Kilmarnock.”
