Texas marching band performs with Beyoncé during NFL halftime show
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A university marching band from Houston took the field with Beyoncé on Christmas during her halftime show for a Netflix-broadcasted NFL game.
Texas Southern University's Ocean of Soul Marching Band performed alongside the Grammy-winning artist during the Texans-Ravens game at NRG Stadium, as she sang and danced to hits from her 2024 album "Cowboy Carter."
"The Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul joins forces with Beyoncé for an unforgettable NFL Halftime Performance. TSU is shining brighter than ever!" the band wrote on Instagram.
According to the university, close to 200 members of its marching band took part in the 12-plus-minute performance, which included the tracks “16 CARRIAGES,” “BLACKBIIRD,” “YA YA,” “LEVII’S JEANS,” “JOLENE,” and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM,” among other songs.
Beyoncé not only involved a marching band but also brought artists like Post Malone, Shaboozey, Reyna Roberts, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, and Tiera Kennedy into the mix. Beyoncé's daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, joined in as a dancer.
If you missed the halftime performance, Netflix is releasing a standalone special about it called “Beyoncé Bowl."
Texas Southern University is located in Houston, which is Beyoncé's hometown, and enrolls more than 8,600 students, according to its website.
