Daniel Levy could ‘take pressure off himself’ by making unpopular decision – Insider
Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown explains what Daniel Levy has tended to do in the past when he has been put under pressure and reveals whether Ange Postecoglou’s job is safe.
Daniel Levy is under more pressure than Ange Postecoglou
Based on the sentiment on social media, it would seem that most Spurs fans are pointing the finger at Levy rather than Postecoglou as the reason for Tottenham’s poor showing this season.
Chants calling for the Tottenham chairman to leave have been sung in the club’s recent games and they do not appear likely to stop anytime soon.
However, that is not to say that Postecoglou is not under any pressure, with a growing portion of the fan base unconvinced that he could bring consistency to the side.
Mick Brown on Levy’s next step and Postecoglou’s future
Brown, who remains well-connected at Tottenham, claims that whenever Levy has been scrutinised in the past, he has responded by making a managerial change.
However, the former Spurs scout claims that Postecoglou‘s job remains safe for the moment, with the club recognising that the 59-year-old’s hands are tied due to the injury situation.
Brown told Football Insider: “The chairman there, when the pressure come on, tends to pull the trigger. He takes the pressure off of himself by sacking the manager and diverting the attention.
“I don’t think Postecoglou has done himself any favours by insisting on playing the way they do. He doesn’t seem to have convincing answers to some of the problems they have struggled with ever since he took over there.
“People have started asking questions of him, and he’s not giving the answers they’re looking for. From what I understand, he’s not in any imminent danger of being sacked.
“They’ve got the nucleus of being a very decent side, and I accept they’ve got injury problems at the moment, but they’ve got to help themselves and adapt.”
Levy cannot afford another failed project
On this occasion, Levy will be aware that sacking Postecoglou will invite even more pressure on him as it would be yet another failed appointment.
The Spurs chairman will be desperate for the Australian to turn things around and to win a trophy. All indications are that Postecoglou will be backed with the signings he needs in January.
