Award winners for December announced
Earlier today the East Japan Boxing Association Announced their monthly award winners for the month of December.
The MVP for the month was OPBF Super Bantamweight champion Kazuki Nakajima (17-2-1, 14) [中嶋一輝], who notched his second defense and scored a brutal KO over the previously unbeaten Juiki Tatsuyoshi (16-1-1, 10) [辰吉寿以輝] on December 12th. The hard hitting Nakajima notched his third win of the year with the victory and set himself up for a big 2025, turning his career around since his 2023 loss to TJ Doheny, getting back on the right track and moving towards a future world title fight.
The Fighting Spirit Award was won by Japanese Lightweight champion Hironori Mishiro (17-1-1, 6) [三代大訓] following his successful December 7th title defense over former Japanese Featherweight champion Hinata Maruta (14-3-1, 10) [丸田陽七太], in what was a great technical bout that saw Maruta suffer a damaged hand and a badly swollen eye with Mishiro taking one of his biggest wins so far. The bout, which took place on December 7th, set Mishiro up for a huge 2025, with choices of either going to the Champion Carnival, to defend his title in a mandatory title bout, or chase a bout with unified OPBF/WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight champion Shu Utsuki (15-1, 13).
The Newcomer Award was won by Hiroki Horiike (4-0, 3) [堀池空希] who stopped Qi Yin Gao (7-5, 5) [高启银], also on December 7th, to continue his race towards his first professional title. He has had a sensational year and a 3rd round win over Gao was hugely impressive and a further sign that Horiike is a star in the making, with incredible potential.
