Uzbekistan sends Medical Teams and Aid Shipment to Afghanistan
Uzbekistan media reported that a team of doctors, including women, and a shipment of food and medicine have entered Mazar-e-Sharif to provide free medical services to patients.
Uzbek News Agency reported on Tuesday, December 24, that these doctors will offer medical services for free to the residents of Balkh province from December 25 to 30.
According to reports, this humanitarian aid was provided under the directive of Uzbekistan’s President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and handed over to the Afghanistan’s authorities at the Hairatan port.
Ulogbek Kasimov, the governor of Surkhandarya, Uzbekistan, stated that alongside the humanitarian aid shipment, a team of 34 doctors arrived in the Hairatan port city to offer medical services for five days to Afghan patients in need.
The report mentioned that the aid included medicines, flour, oil, and pasta, and was provided at the request of the local authorities in the province.
The medical team from Uzbekistan is prepared to offer services in general medicine, surgery, neurology, pediatrics, obstetrics, eye care, and dentistry.
The humanitarian aid from Uzbekistan has been warmly received by the local officials in Balkh province, which has expressed a desire to expand relations between the two countries.
This comes amid the restrictions and banning of medical institutes for women in Afghanistan by the Taliban regime, in the face of dire medical needs and a struggling healthcare system.
