NYC cab hits multiple pedestrians on Christmas Day: Officials
HERALD SQUARE, Manhattan (PIX11) -- Multiple people have been rushed to at least two Manhattan hospitals after a yellow cab struck them on Christmas Day, police officials said Wednesday.
Police received a 911 call for pedestrians struck on West 34 Street and Avenue of The Americas. A yellow cab drove onto the sidewalk and struck multiple people.
"My wife got hit on her left side,' said one tourist who is visiting New York City for the holidays said. "I got my wife and daughter out of the way and noticed two other people had been hit. A lady and her son were both struck underneath. The driver never hit the brakes, so everything was still spinning."
The boy's leg was underneath the tire, the man added.
Police confirmed six people were injured. A 9-year-old boy suffered a laceration to his right thigh. A 41-year-old received an injury to the head, and a 49-year-old woman suffered a leg injury.
Additionally, a 37-year-old and a 19-year-old were also injured, and another 49-year-old was also hit. Police say they refused medical attention.
A 58-year-old driver was behind the wheel of the taxi, police say. What led to the crash remains unclear.
