Tottenham told £40m will not be enough to sign winger in 2025
Tottenham Hotspur and other clubs have been informed that they would have to pay a substantial fee if they wish to sign one Bundesliga starlet during the January window.
Jamie Gittens has taken his game to a new level this season
Jamie Gittens is now viewed by many as one of the best young attackers in Europe, with the Englishman regularly making the difference for Borussia Dortmund in the final third this season.
The winger has nine goals and four assists to his name this season, with four of those strikes coming in the Champions League.
Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Tottenham have been keeping an eye on the 20-year-old’s progress while a number of their Premier League rivals are also plotting a move for the Manchester City academy graduate.
Dortmund director sets record straight on Jamie Gittens
Dortmund’s managing director Lars Ricken has now sent a clear message to the English clubs who are eyeing a move for Gittens.
When asked what he would do if the German club receives an offer of £40m for the winger in the upcoming transfer window, Ricken told BILD: “I wouldn’t hang up immediately because that would not be in keeping with my character. But I would politely decline.”
The Dortmund director admitted that the Bundesliga club’s plan is to keep hold of all of their top players, including Gittens.
He added: “We are in a challenging situation and want to develop further in terms of sport. In principle, we want to keep players of such high quality for longer. This also applies to Jamie, who has a long-term contract.”
Gittens will be sold for the right price
We know Dotmund’s business model is to develop players and sell them for a big profit. They will eventually do the same with Gittens.
However, we also know that the German club tend to drive a hard bargain and one would expect them to demand a mammoth fee for the England Under-21 international, thus potentially putting him out of Spurs‘ reach.
