Christmas Message 2024: From President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled
Seasons Greetings extended to Barbados Council for the Disabled Directors, Affiliates, Staff, Partners, and the wider community of persons with disabilities.
I am privileged to warmly greet all constituents on this occasion recognised as the Yuletide season. This is the time when everyone takes the opportunity to connect with family and friends.
The giving and receiving of gifts may be seen as a traditional exercise, sometimes devoid of the true meaning.
This year, persons with disabilities have been further recognised by the government on the passage of policies, designed to improve our living standards and hasten inclusion at every level of society. We await Legislation.
The Barbados Council for the Disabled demonstrated determination, strength and resilience as we navigate this transitory process through adaptive best practice method.
This is possible with effective communication, consultation, collaboration, and appropriate control.
The Council remains committed to the development and empowerment of all persons with disabilities, as we strive to facilitate equitable services, relevant programmes/projects, and representative leadership.
We are acutely aware of the current chaos in all corners of the world, and the inevitable impact on our daily lives.
Let this season be one of Hope and Goodwill to transport us into the New Year with collective vision.
We look forward to the New Year with renewed vigour echoed in the Theme of United Nations International Day for Persons with Disabilities – “Amplifying the Leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.”
May the God of peace, joy and love, richly fill our homes with the light of hope beyond expectations.
