I tried out pillows under £10 – the bargain £4 supermarket winner was perfect for a good night’s sleep
CHOOSING the right pillow to sleep on is important for a good night’s sleep.
Ideally your head, neck and spine should be well supported which will keep you pain free.
Natasha Harding tested out pillows under £10 to see how they compared[/caption]However, the type of pillow you choose will depend on which position you sleep in.
If you sleep on your side, you might prefer a firmer pillow, but if you snooze on your back, you need a softer pillow that moulds around your head.
Front sleepers need to have their head cradled and synthetic options are great for this.
Pillows typically last between 18 months and three years.
If you’re regularly waking up with a sore neck, back pain or you can’t get comfortable in bed, it might be time to buy a new one.
Here, Natasha Harding, 49, from Bude in Cornwall, who always sleeps on her front, tried and rated seven pillows under £10.
Medium Back Sleeper Ultrasoft Pillows (two pack), £8, Morrisons
The Nutmeg pillows topped the product test ratings[/caption]These from Morrisons were my absolute favourites.
Each pillow was well filled and offered me a decent amount of support, without being too hard.
For a bargain £4 a pillow, I’m absolutely sold and am going to invest in more of these.

Slumberdown Feels Like Down (two pack), £8, Aldi
The Slumberdown pillows scored top marks in terms of value for money[/caption]Aldi has another set of well priced pillows that were super big and bouncy.
They moulded nicely to my head and are ideal to rest on when reading in bed.
For sleeping, I would need to flatten them down slightly.

Soft Touch Pillow, (two pack), medium, £8.50, Tesco
Tesco’s pillows are the perfect luxury buy, Natasha said[/caption]These pillows from Tesco were really soft and comfortable and because they’re well filled, they’d give any bed a luxurious, sumptuous look.
If I was napping on my back, I’d be super comfortable, but for lying face down, they’re probably a bit too hard.

Slumberdown Soft Support Front Sleeper Pillow, £8, Argos
These pillows aren’t great if you need a bit more head support, Natasha said[/caption]This pillow from Argos was comfortable and apparently ideal for prone sleepers like me.
It is pretty flat, which I liked, but if you need more head support, you might not be such a fan.
If you were reading or watching TV in bed, you’d need more than one to prop you up a little.

Fogarty Soft and Cosy Pillows (two pack), £8, Dunelm
These pillows from Dunelm came in at £8[/caption]These pillows from Dunelm, although very big, didn’t feel as though they offered any support at all.
My head sank into them immediately and I don’t think I’d be able to find a comfortable sleeping position.
However, I imagine if you sleep on your back, they might be more suited as they are nicely squishy.

Non-allergenic, Super Bounce Pillow, £5.99, Home Bargains
These Home Bargains pillows received one of the worst overall ratings from Natasha[/caption]A very buoyant pillow from Home Bargains that looked nice on the bed because it was so plump, but I didn’t find it that comfortable.
My head didn’t feel particularly supported and I think it would get very lumpy, very quickly.

Orthapaedic Support Pillow, £6.99, The Range
Natasha wasn’t impressed with these pillows[/caption]I didn’t like this one from The Range. It felt very synthetic and was a bit bumpy.
I couldn’t find an optimum head position and I’d have a very uncomfortable night if I tried to sleep with this one.
