Early Christmas Eve shooting in Lafayette sends one to hospital
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- One person was shot several times in Lafayette in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, authorities said.
An unidentified victim was hospitalized and underwent emergency surgery as the result of a shooting on Evangeline Thruway, according to police. No further details of the victim's condition are yet known.
Lafayette Police were dispatched at 2:42 a.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of NW Evangeline Thruway in reference to a shooting. Officers found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was stabilized on scene and taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he is undergoing surgery.
The suspect was not located on scene but multiple witnesses were identified who indicated an altercation occurred which led to the victim being shot, police said.
