Seen him? Baton Rouge murder suspect may have Lafayette connections, authorities say
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is asking for help in locating 18-year-old Tyler Davis, who is wanted in connection with the death of another teen whose body was found in a sugarcane field. Authorities believe Davis has connections in the Lafayette area.
Davis is wanted on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office at 225-343-9234 or Captial Region Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
Per a BRProud.com report, Davis is wanted after authorities identified the body of an 18-year-old found in a sugarcane field as Ja’Morius Mitchell, a Plaquemine resident who had been reported missing days earlier.
Authorities said a local cane farmer reported a fire burning in a field near Sid Richardson Road in Addis. When deputies arrived around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, they discovered Mitchell’s body in the field.
The Plaquemine Police Department confirmed Mitchell had been the subject of a missing person’s investigation. He was last seen on Thursday, Dec. 12.
According to investigators, Mitchell’s body showed signs of being burned in the fire, but authorities noted that sugarcane farmers did not intentionally burn the field in this instance. Detectives are treating the case as a potential homicide and suspect foul play.
