Crash involving semi-truck, fuel tanker, car kills 1 in Clatsop County
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A crash involving a car, semi-truck and a fuel tanker left one driver dead on a Clatsop County highway Thursday evening, officials said.
Just after 6 p.m., Oregon State Police troopers responded to the area of HWY 30 near milepost 77 on reports of a three-vehicle crash.
After arriving at the scene, police say they found a Mazda driving eastbound had tried to pass a semi-truck in a no passing zone.
The Mazda then entered the westbound lane, coming face to face with a fuel tanker.
When the Mazda tried to re-enter the eastbound lane, police said it sideswiped the semi-truck, lost control and hit the fuel tanker head-on.
The driver of the Mazda, identified as 26-year-old August Crawford, was taken to the hospital, but later died from his injuries.
Police said the other drivers involved declined medical attention.
Officials said traffic in that area of HWY 30 was impacted for around eight hours for the duration of the investigation.
