Heung-min Son wants new long-term contract to stay at Tottenham Hotspur
Heung-min Son is clear on how long he wants to stay at Tottenham as the North London club contemplate whether to hand him a new long-term contract.
Spurs not under any pressure on Heung-min Son’s future
While Son’s current deal runs out next summer, Tottenham have the option of extending the deal by 12 months, which is why the Lilywhites are seemingly relaxed about the situation at the moment.
In fact, various reports over recent months have revealed that Spurs will activate the one-year option to extend his contract, thus taking it until 2026, and will hold off on the decision as to whether to offer the South Korean an improved deal.
According to some sources, Son’s camp is surprised by this development as they expect the club to present their client with a long-term contract.
Son’s stance revealed
ESPN reporter James Olley has now revealed that there is not much urgency at Tottenham about Son‘s contract situation.
The club are said to be relaxed at the moment due to the fact that they are protected by a one-year extension option.
Interestingly, Olley claims that the 32-year-old remains hopeful of securing a long-term deal at N17 and is ready to commit his future to the club. However, the journalist adds that meaningful talks have not taken place between the parties on a fresh long-term deal.
What Son’s camp have said about his future
Son’s contract situation is reportedly attracting some interest, with some Saudi Pro League clubs thought to be plotting a move for the forward next summer, while more recently, it emerged that Galatasaray are expected to make a move to sign the Tottenham man in January.
However, the Spurs captain’s agent rubbished those rumours last month and confirmed that discussions will be held with the North London club’s hierarchy on a new deal.
He said two weeks ago: “It is not true that Son Heung-min first requested a Spanish club or that he will go to Turkey. We have not yet finished talking with Tottenham.”
