Cold temperatures this weekend, warmer and stormier heading into Christmas
A colder airmass has moved into Acadiana, leading to some cold temperatures ahead. This morning, temperatures have reached the upper 30s, and even under mostly sunny skies, temperatures will only rebound into the mid-50s later this afternoon. A cold night expected tonight with clear skies and light winds. Readings could be in the low-mid 30s by Sunday morning. Most of Acadiana will see a frost, but a light freeze could be possible north of Highway 190 and across central parts of the state.
A warming trend is anticipated, however, through Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. This is due to a jet stream, which is going to get much more active.
A trough of low pressure will move through this jet stream, moving into the area by Christmas day. This will likely bring us a good chance of storms on Christmas and also warmer temperatures as we get southwesterly flow ahead of these troughs. Christmas day looks warm and stormy, with highs in the mid-70s.
Even warmer by the end of the week with readings in the upper 70s Thursday and Friday. A series of disturbances will impact the area both Thursday and Friday, keeping the weather pattern stormy.
