Archie Gray admits he was ‘starstruck’ by Tottenham teammates when he first joined
Archie Gray has revealed how he was blown away by his Tottenham teammates when he first joined, having played with them on the football video game FIFA.
Archie Gray is one to watch at Tottenham
Archie Gray has not yet become a regular starter for Tottenham in the Premier League, but his contributions since arriving from Leeds United have been impressive.
He has started in all of Tottenham’s Europa League matches this season and has won possession in the defensive third more times than any other player in the competition.
And although known for playing as a midfielder, Gray has stepped in for injured players and has appeared at right-back, left-back and centre-back this season. This has caused Ange Postecoglou to praise the youngster, who he recently described as brilliant and solid.
Archie Gray reveals how he initially felt about Spurs teammates
Although Gray joined Tottenham in a deal worth £40m, it seems that had not sunk in for the 18-year-old when he first arrived.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Gray has revealed he was ‘starstruck’ at first by his new colleagues, but he now sees them in a different light.
He said: “They are world-class players but at the end of the day off the pitch they are just normal people. In the changing room, they are normal guys.
“Looking on the outside you think ‘wow, I play with these guys on FIFA’, because that’s how I looked at it when I first went in!
“It sounds a bit weird but I was still a bit starstruck. But they are just normal guys who are really helping me every day.
“I think the difference is that when work comes to work on the training pitch it’s 100 per cent every single day. As soon as they get off the pitch they are really great to have around in the changing room. It’s a great group.”
Gray can become like the Spurs players he was starstruck by
While Gray grew up playing as his current teammates on FIFA, many youngsters will have him in their team in the latest game, now called EA Sports FC 25. Although Gray’s rating is only a modest 73, which is lower than some Championship players (EA Sports).
However, the game recognises his potential, as he could rise to 87, and once Gray plays more first-team football, especially in his preferred position, he could become a very important player for Spurs.
