Two accused of stealing rifle from law enforcement vehicle
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Two suspects are in custody who are accused of stealing a rifle and safety equipment from a police vehicle. The Albany County sheriff said the suspects smashed the window of the vehicle Sunday morning and grabbed a handful of bags and a rifle case.
It prompted a large response from local and state police near Lark Street in Albany. The suspects were identified as Anthony Thomas and Jerry Lenegar. They were taken into custody about an hour later. All of the stolen items were recovered.
"I can't even tell you the feeling in my gut. Nervous as anything because you've got a loaded assault rifle out there -- a long arm -- and I was just scared to death of what they intended on doing with it," Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said.
The sheriff said investigators are still looking for a third suspect.
