Newly Released J6er James Grant: Lawsuit UPDATE – Exposes Inferior Legal Representation, Nightmare Experience at Trial Against the Federal Gov’t

James Tate Grant is an outspoken conservative and graduate with honors in political science from NC State University. He was accepted into several top law schools on scholarship.

Sadly, instead of a 3-year degree in law, he was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison –for pushing a fence that the government eventually admitted did not touch anyone.

For over 1,000 days, I rotted in jail waiting for trial on my January 6th charges. As I was tortured in nightmare conditions in Northern Neck Regional Jail alongside pedophiles, drug dealers, and murderers, I didn’t even have a lawyer to contact.

My first court-appointed attorney refused to take my case due to the so-called “violent nature” of my charges. She had represented rapists and murderers, but a Trump supporter who pushed a fence was just too much.

The next court-appointed attorney wasn’t any better. The first thing he told me was to waive my right to a speedy trial because “they are just going to rule against you, anyways”.

Once I was in jail, he answered exactly 0 out of 40+ phone calls. Imagine the terror I felt. I was sitting in jail, facing 101 years in prison on trumped-up charges, and I couldn’t even contact my lawyer!

Over 13 months, I saw this attorney only twice – for about 10 minutes each time. The only people I could talk to were my parents.

I can’t imagine the damage it did to my family as I called my mom on the phone from jail asking “Mom, I just pushed a fence. Why are they doing this to me, Mom? Why are they doing this to me?”

The simple answer: It’s just politics.

Perhaps this was all by design. Maybe they kept me in Northern Neck due to my prominent role on January 6th, right next to Ray Epps.

I fully believe they left me in that hellhole for over a year to prevent me from talking to other January 6th defendants.

Being told to sign 9 years of my life away for pushing a fence, I had no choice but to go to trial against the federal government. All told, I faced a potential maximum sentence of 101 years in prison.
For nearly 2 weeks, I was woken up at 4 a.m. to be shackled in arm and leg restraints for the 10-minute drive to the federal courthouse.

It’s really a terrible and complicated process. After being woken up at 4:00, you come down to the DC jail to sit in their holding area from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Then you are chained and taken to the DC Courthouse in a van.

Once there, we were aggressively stripped-searched and put in leg restraints and left in “the dungeon”. You are not allowed to review any legal documents or paperwork, so you just sit there with other inmates for the entirety of the day.

Most inmates choose to sleep. It is beyond freezing, so it’s wise to wear several layers of T-shirts. Sleeping on the steel bench in leg chains is awful, but it is possible due to extreme fatigue.

You are given one “bagged lunch” for the entirety of the day. The “meal” consists of the most disgusting, slimy bologna sandwich you’ve ever seen, soggy cookies, and a bag of juice.

Most people only eat the cookies and use the brown paper bag as a pillow to sleep on. This is the only food you’re given from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I guess it’s part of the process to make the court experience a nightmare, so that people avoid going to trial.

Then comes 8 hours of constant court proceedings with your life on the line. There is a recess around noon for lunch. Everyone goes out to eat somewhere – except for me. I was chained up again and sent back to the holding cell for the lunch hour.

At 5:00, you get put back in chains and ride back to the DC Jail. When you get back to the jail, it’s count time. So, you sit in their holding cell for a few more hours before getting back to your unit.

Once you finally get back to your cell, you need to go to sleep quickly so you can be awoken again at 4:00 a.m. to do it all again the next day.

After nearly 2 weeks of this grueling routine, I eventually got my verdict:

I was found not guilty on 5 out of 9 charges – including being acquitted of any charges involving injury. Almost nobody beats the federal government, this was a rare accomplishment.

After being found not guilty, I was finally released from a nightmare that I thought would never end.

Yet when I finally got home, I searched my name on the internet to find that the media completely ignored my incredible verdict. I beat the federal government at trial – and the media just ignores it. Even worse, they blatantly lie – telling the public I injured a police officer when I was acquitted of it!

Seeing these media lies, I went into a state of depression for weeks. It was only when I found a job knocking doors for President Trump that I finally snapped out of it.

Telling people to vote for President Trump was literally my dream job, and it gave me a renewed sense of purpose.

I have begun my righteous crusade against the media. They tried to destroy my name through blatant lies, but I am not giving up.
