PLOS Pathogens Meets Clinical Research – Welcome Our New Editor-in-Chief: Sumita Bhaduri-McIntosh
Author: Julia Squarr, Journal Development Manager, PLOS Pathogens
Over the course of 2024, we have been sharing our intention to expand beyond PLOS Pathogens’ scope, rooted in fundamental discoveries. As science continues to evolve, so too must we, adapting to the needs and shifts of our global research community. As such, we are excited to announce a pivotal step in our journey: Dr. Sumita Bhaduri-McIntosh joins us as our new second Editor-in-Chief of PLOS Pathogens. With her exceptional expertise and leadership, we believe that Sumita will guide us as we continue to publish groundbreaking research spanning all pathogens and life forms, from fundamental discoveries to translational, applied and clinical science. We are committed to advancing Open Science and a diverse and inclusive culture that represents our global community and engages with international experts as authors, editors, and reviewers from across the world.
As a longstanding member of the PLOS Pathogens editorial board, Sumita brings over a decade of experience to her new role. Sumita’s scientific expertise in viral oncology and pediatric infectious diseases uniquely positions her to understand our communities working at the growing intersection of basic pathogen research and clinical science. We recognize the importance of fundamental research on microbes and pathogen biology, however, and Sumita’s ability to unite fundamental discovery with clinical practice, we believe make her the ideal person to help us reach new audiences and grow our community while maintaining but also growing our position as a leading journal on pathogen biology, host-microbe interactions, and infectious disease.
We are thrilled to have Sumita join us on this journey and look forward to the future of PLOS Pathogens under the co-leadership of Sumita Bhaduri-McIntosh and Michael Malim. We look forward to their leadership as we work to advance the boundaries of pathogen research together.
Welcome, Sumita!
