PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A powerful coastal storm brought heavy rain and damaging winds to the Oregon and Washington Coast early Wednesday morning.
A strong fall front moved over the northern Oregon Coast and along the southwestern sections of Washington early Wednesday morning. The gusty winds took down trees, broke limbs and heavy rain washed away roads near the Tillamook area.
Coastal areas saw over two inches of rain on Tuesday. The rain showers continued past the midnight hour as the overnight storm moved through Oregon's coastal communities. Wind gusts near Astoria peaked around 80 mph.
The downed trees and broken limbs took power away from thousands across the northern Oregon Coast overnight and into the early morning hours of Wednesday. Drier skies returned by morning as more December rain is expected later this week and next week.
