Theater director, producer Bobby Garcia dies
MANILA, Philippines – Theater director and producer Bobby Garcia has died, TV host Boy Abunda reported on Wednesday, December 18. He was 55.
Garcia died in Vancouver, Canada, Tuesday, December 17.
Garcia has 50 plays and musicals under his belt in Canada and Asia including China, Singapore, and the Philippines, to name a few, with several of his productions garnering nominations for the Tony, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
Most recently, he directed Request Sa Radyo, starring Lea Salonga, and Dolly de Leon.
Some of his productions include Sweeney Todd, The Carole King Musical, Saturday Night Fever, The King & I, and Disney’s The Little Mermaid to name some.
He has also directed concerts for Lea Salonga and Erik Santos.
He is the winner of three Aliw Awards for Direction, and has been inducted into their Hall of Fame.
Here Lies Love, which he co-produced, garnered 4 Tony Award nominations.
He was the founder of Atlantis Productions/ Atlantis Theatrical Group of Companies in 1999, and held a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Directing for Theatre from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelors Degree from Fordham University in New York. – Rappler.com
