Store hack earnt me a FREE kids toy that’ll make the perfect stocking filler – here’s how
AN EAGLE-EYED bargain hunter has revealed the store hack she used to nab a free toy – and it’s the perfect stocking filler.
The auntie quickly posted on social media to share the tip with others and to make sure they know of the genius way to save money.
The hack might be worth trying at different stores too[/caption] The woman posted a picture of the scribbled out barcode which led to the item not scanning at the till[/caption]Originally priced for just under a tenner, the woman has explained how she got her hands on a Disney Princess toy – and she didn’t pay a penny.
The Moana Magical Necklace, suitable for children over three years old, could be a great last minute Christmas present for those with young relatives.
Posting photos of the tremendous find on Facebook, the woman revealed that one barcode on the box had been scribbled out.
Having scanned the item in Smyths, Luton, multiple times, the woman claims the till repeatedly alerted that the sale was blocked.
To her amazement, the manager came to her aid, signing the item off and gave it to her for free.
According to the post, it can sometimes be a result of “older stock”.
The woman captioned the pictures of the gift: “Got this along side another gift from Smyths for my niece and the barcode wasn’t scanning.
“Kept saying ‘blocked for sale’ on the till. Manager signed it off and gave it to me for free!
“She said sometimes it happens with older stock. It’s meant to be £9.99.
“Maybe the ones with the scribbled out barcode are the ones that won’t scan. Worth a shot.”
The post has already garnered nearly 100 reactions and over 30 comments.
Some were not convinced with one person responding: “Have they not just scanned the wrong barcode?”
But others were quick to express their delight and confirm the phenomenon has occurred before.
One user claimed: “I work in Smyths and that does happen with older stock.”
Another put: “Most of the time that’s recall stock in most stores.”
Someone else said: “I got my now 7 year old one of these years ago! It is an older toy for sure x”
A fourth wrote: “They still sell them on amazon too, I bought one this month.”
While another commented: “oh we handed this toy in the weekend and the guy scribbled on it so that’s why you got it for free hahaha it’s our one we gave back.”
