Three educators in St. Martin Parish honored as Principals of the Year
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Three educators were recognized as Principal of the Year at Breaux Bridge Elementary, Breaux Bridge Junior High, and St. Martinville High. Each educator was presented with flowers.
Students and staff packed the gyms of each school to celebrate the special moment.
Jonathan Lane, principal at St. Martinville High, Kasie Rossyion, principal at Breaux Bridge Elementary, and Lisa Sylvester, principal at Breaux Bridge Junior High, were all surprised by students and staff for this special moment.
Rossiyon said she has lived in Breaux Bridge all of her life and has been principal for three years. She said it was an emotional moment for her.
"It's education, so we do it just from the kindness of our heart and for the betterment of the community and the children. This is actually a full circle moment because I came here as a student and now, I'm able to enrich it for the children of our community. This is personal," Rossyion said.
Sylvester said she's been in education now for 17 years. she said she comes to school every day ready to engage with students and staff.
"I'm in those classrooms, the teachers can tell you I'm in those classrooms helping them teach, I even help the kids in math when they come to the library, we have a math lab created but they love it, they want to participate, they want to do better, they want to succeed academically," Sylvester said.
Lane said he's been in education for 16 years. He was a football coach before he became principal. He said he has a passion for preparing high school students for college and beyond.
"This, I don't ever see as a job. My goal here is to help change everybody's lives one day at time, try to make it better. Not every student here has everything, they're not given everything, but I try to give them a chance. That's my goal, is always give them a chance to be successful," Lane said.
Lane, Rossyion, and Sylvester said they are excited to continue doing what they love and supporting students and staff each day.
