Police investigating Bricktown shooting from early Sunday morning
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Police Department is investigating a shooting from early Sunday morning in Bricktown. It involved three females with two of them being injured from the gunfire.
"It's very frightening that these things happen,” Bricktown resident Alicia Moise said.
It was just across the street from Moise’s apartment where those gunshots rang out.
"I guess the most frightening part is that it all seems that we're getting more used to this type of thing,” she said.
Police got the call around 2 a.m. When they got to the scene they learned two females were shot and taken to the hospital.
"One was shot in the upper thigh,” Capt. Tommy Ackerman with the Oklahoma City Police Department said. “The other shooting victim was shot in the calf area."
Both victims were treated and released, according to Ackerman. It all stemmed from a fight between two females.
"Then there was other people that were involved and then that's where one of the bystanders pulled the gun out,” Ackerman said.
Ackerman said that security video heled them identify a female suspect. This situation also comes on the heels of a different Bricktown shooting back in October. At that time, four people were shot including some teens after an altercation at a restaurant.
"We're going to do everything that we can to identify suspects and these types of things to prevent this from occurring,” Ackerman said.
According to Ackerman, they’ve upped their presence in Bricktown and partnered with businesses in the area to try and mitigate crime there.
"I have not felt threatened,” Moise said.
Moise has lived downtown for about two years now. She walks her dog in the morning and has walked to restaurants in the area as well. However, it’s still not lost on her what took place across the street.
"I think normalization of these types of things is probably as frightening as the event,” she said.
Ackerman said there were multiple curfew arrests that same night. He added that they expect charges to be filed soon in this case.
