All trapped Coal Miners in Samangan rescued, says official
The spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Samangan stated, without providing specific figures, that “all” workers trapped in a coal mine in Samangan were rescued. Earlier, local sources had reported that 35 workers were trapped.
According to the Bakhtar News Agency, citing Ismatullah Muradi, the spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Samangan, the workers were rescued through the efforts of rescue teams on Sunday afternoon.
The collapse of the coal mine and the trapping of several workers under the debris occurred on the evening of Saturday, December 14, in the Sefid Khak area of the Gula village in the lower Dara-i-Suf district.
The report indicated that the mine collapsed while the workers were still at work.
Although some sources mentioned that the number of trapped individuals was as high as 35 or more than 40, the Taliban has refrained from providing a specific count of the trapped workers.
This incident highlights the ongoing safety concerns in Afghanistan’s mining industry, where workers often face hazardous conditions. Despite rescue efforts, the lack of proper safety measures continues to put lives at risk. Authorities and international organizations must address these safety issues to prevent future tragedies and improve working conditions for Afghan laborers.
