Former Love Island star Tasha Ghouri in major career change after huge Strictly success
TASHA Ghouri hopes to use her Strictly success as a springboard to move into documentary making.
The Love Island star, who was born deaf and wears a cochlear implant, has cherished being able to represent her community on the BBC dance show.
Tasha amazed throughout her run on Strictly, narrowly losing in the final[/caption]Tasha, 26, said: “I would love to do more TV and do a documentary around ableism and delve into that subject.
“Representation has got much better but more still needs to be done. It should be the norm, not a surprise.
“When I left Love Island, the hardest thing to deal with was all the ableism.
“There was so much lack of awareness.”
It comes after her incredible performance in Saturday’s final saw her become the show’s highest scoring celebrity ever — taking the title from singer Ashley Roberts.
Her series total of 596 points trumped the Pussycat Doll’s achievement of 591 in the 2018 series.
Tasha has also broken her silence after narrowly missing out on winning Strictly last night.
The Love Islander took to social media to share photos from her Strictly journey.
Tasha was born without hearing and has had a cochlear implant since she was five years old, making her only the second deaf person to have appeared on Strictly.
The reality star was left in floods of happy tears as her brother, who lives in Australia, surprised her in person on the live final.
Tasha described the process as “magical” and said praised her pro partner Aljaž Škorjanec for getting her so far.
She wrote alongside the post: “Strictly after 13 weeks thank you, when I say doing this show has just been so magical I can’t even put it into words & surprising me with my brother flying in from Australia!!! This was extra special having him there watching the final, thank you so much for making this happen.
“Alijaz you made magical beautiful dances that’ll be remembered for a long time from our American smooth, waltz, show dance and many more.
“Everyday we laughed & smiled, you are what strictly is about – your passion and positivity radiates from within on this show. I can’t thank you enough from the bottom of my heart, you made my experience so magical. And we made history!!! What a moment.
