Former Ohio teacher sentenced for sex with student
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WCMH) -- A former Scioto County teacher will spend the next year in prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with a student.
Caroline Johnson, 36, was sentenced Thursday. In addition to the prison term, she will be required to register as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of her life, meaning she must register with law enforcement every 90 days. Johnson faced up to 10 years in prison.
In October, Johnson pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery after an investigation found she engaged in sexual contact with a Bloom-Vernon Local Schools student, where Johnson worked as a coach and intervention specialist.
According to the Ohio Attorney General’s office, Ohio law prohibits those working in education in a position of power from engaging in sexual contact with a student at that school no matter the student’s age or if the contact was consensual.
