Strike is one of the best dramas on TV – but here’s why the new series would be ruined by romance
BBC is welcoming back the next series of Strike, and as a huge fan of the series I am excited for another crime mystery.
The new series of Strike will focus on the book The Ink Black Heart, which is the sixth book in the drama series adapted from J.K. Rowling’s best-selling crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
Strike will return for a new series but a romance between the two lead characters is a recipe for disaster[/caption] The last series of Strike left a romance hanging in the balance for Cormoran and Robin[/caption] Yet actually a romance between Robin and Cormoran would just feel wrong on so many levels[/caption]It’s the first time viewers will have been able to get their fix of Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott in two years, and a big question has been hanging over them since they were last on our screens.
At the end of season five in 2022, Cormoran failed to confess his true feelings for Robin as she navigated her way after a messy divorce.
Yet it remains to be seen whether series six will bring a romance or not for the detective pair.
Yet I will be one viewer begging, praying and keeping everything crossed that there is no romance, kissing or longing glances, and instead we keep things firmly on the crime solving instead.
We’ve already had a bit of a ‘will they or won’t they’ teaser in the last series, and with Cormoran and Robin also having a brother and sister style relationship it just feels wrong for them to be romantically linked.
If we follow the books, whilst a potential romance is lingering in the air, we thankfully see the two detectives prefer to be friends rather than lovers.
Cormoran, who has been looking at Robin in the last series like a lost puppy, shouldn’t be alone but equally he isn’t right for Robin.
She’s gone from a marriage to a bit of a waste of space Matt, to divorcing him and she should be single for a bit longer as she truly gets into her detective work and understanding what she wants out of life.
A new romance or a man who is completely unrelated to the crime work she undertakes would be a better fit, and if there’s no romance between Cormoran and Robin, we have a better chance of them working together for longer.
Being a team means we get more Strike drama series, rather than it feeling like one of our favourite main characters has to bow out due to a broken heart or a failed relationship.
One thing that we can definitely count on for the upcoming series is twists and turns and a murder that proves near impossible to solve.
The BBC have already released the synopsis of the new series, and it’s looking to be a good one that will quickly have us hooked.
Strike is one of the UK’s most watched dramas with the most recent instalment, Strike -Troubled Blood, averaging 8.4 million viewers across its run in 2022, so it’s expected to see similar figures when it airs next week.
I for one can’t wait – just please make any tension dramatic, not sexual.
The Ink Black Heart airs on Monday 16 December and Tuesday 17 December at 9pm on BBC1.
