Radu Dragusin opens up on adapting to Ange Postecoglou’s high-line
Radu Dragusin makes a confession about playing in Tottenham’s high defensive line after getting a run of matches under his belt recently.
Radu Dragusin is reaping the rewards for his patience
Dragusin had to bide his time after arriving at Tottenham from Genoa in January, with the Romanian initially struggling to get starts under his belt.
However, the 22-year-old has played regularly over the last couple of months, owing to the injuries that Spurs are dealing with in central defence, and he is making the most of his opportunities.
The former Genoa man now looks a lot more comfortable in Tottenham’s high line than he did initially, and he has admitted that he has had a steep learning curve.
Radu Dragusin says he has improved at Tottenham
There were initially some doubts among Spurs fans about whether Dragusin was even a good fit for Postecoglou‘s system as the defender struggled to make the right decisions in possession and seemed to be caught out a few times.
However, he is now looking more at home in the system, and he confessed that he has evolved as a player since arriving in North London.
When asked how he has found playing in Postecoglou’s system, Dragusin told Football.London: “On a personal level, I think I’ve improved a lot.
“I feel like under him and under the staff I have evolved as a player and like you said, the way we defend here, it was really different than the way I defended in the past. But I think it’s a really nice way of playing football and enjoyable.”
Dragusin has no issues with playing with Tottenham’s intensity
Central defenders generally do not tend to enjoy constantly making sprints towards their own goal, but that is something they are expected to do at Tottenham.
When asked how he has coped with the intensity demanded by Postecoglou, Dragusin said: “Personally, I feel that I’ve already got the rhythm of it by playing. Especially in the last period, I played a couple of good games and I feel good. I can’t say that I’m tired or anything.”
The 22-year-old was used to defending much deeper at Genoa and is now being asked to play around ten yards higher up the pitch.
When asked if it is challenging defending so far up the pitch, the Romanian international responded: “It is, but we train for this every day and because of that, we can manage to do this every game. Like I said in the last games, I didn’t feel any kind of issue of doing it.”
