Tottenham have Jonathan David competition from three European giants
Tottenham’s attempt to get ahead of the competition to sign Jonathan David is set to be challenged by a couple of Premier League rivals and one La Liga giant.
Tottenham lay the groundwork to sign Jonathan David
Jonathan David has been consistently prolific in the French top-tier and with the striker now set to enter the final six months of his deal, he will undoubtedly be a highly sought-after commodity.
It emerged a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites had launched an offer to bring the Canadian international to N17.
Meanwhile, other sources suggested earlier this week that Tottenham have held talks with David‘s representatives over a free transfer to the club next summer, with the North London side said to be keen on beating other suitors to the player.
Competition for David is intensifying
However, predictably, it turns out that rather than sitting back and watching Tottenham make their move, other clubs are also making advances towards Jonathan David.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are keen on securing the pacy forward’s services as they see him as the ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski in the near future.
Meanwhile, CaughtOffside claim that Arsenal and Manchester United have now also spoken to David’s entourage about a potential move to England.
The outlet adds that the 24-year-old wants a new challenge and that the Premier League is likely to be his next destination.
Spurs in a mad scramble for Jonathan David
If David does leave Lille on a free transfer next summer, there is going to be a flurry of clubs across the continent battling to sign him.
The striker will be within his rights to demand a huge salary, given that there is no transfer fee involved.
One would not expect Tottenham to be able to compete with some of the others in that respect as the Lilywhites are unlikely to break their wage structure and make Jonathan David star their highest-paid player.
