Carencro family celebrates slain man's birthday: 'I just miss him'
CARENCRO, La. (KLFY) -- The family of a Carencro man celebrated what would have been his 21st birthday on Wednesday, Dec. 11. It's a birthday that was stolen by five people whom Carencro police say killed him.
O'Shay Breaux, 20, was gunned down in front of his home in Carencro in January.
"Happy birthday, mama's baby," O'Shay's mother, Michelle Breaux said, looking up to the sky.
Holding blue balloons, O'Shay's favorite color, his mother wished she could be with her son on his birthday.
"I'd kiss him. I'd hug him. I'd hold him. I can't do that anymore," Michelle said.
Instead, she can only hold his picture. His family is now left to imagine how they would have celebrated his birthday with him.
"He would have been asking me, 'Aunt Crystal, you are coming out with me?' I just miss him. He would walk us to the car every night when we were leaving. He wouldn't forget to tell us, 'I love y'all,'" O'Shay's Aunt Crystal recalled.
"Happy birthday, and of course, we would have been turning up with you. I love you, cousin," another aunt added.
While it's a hard day for O'Shay's family, they said it's important to keep his name alive and continue to celebrate him.
"We are all thinking about him. We all miss him. We all love him, and we wish he was here with us," his mother said.
As his family released balloons into the sky, they shouted, "I love you! Happy birthday!"
O'Shay Breaux's mother will appear in court on Dec. 19 for two of the five suspects charged with O'Shay's murder.
