Dean of Pittsfield High School charged in drug trafficking case
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) -- Two Pittsfield men were arrested Wednesday for their involvement in a drug trafficking case. Lavante Wiggins, 30, and Theodore Warren, a/k/a “Monty,” 42, were charged with one count each of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Wiggins is employed as the Dean of Pittsfield High School.
According to investigators, Wiggins led a drug trafficking organization that distributed large amounts of cocaine in and around the Pittsfield area, and Warren delivered the drugs.
The Pittsfield Public Schools Superintendent Joseph Curtis provided a statement addressing the community;
We have been informed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office about the arrest of Lavante Wiggins, Dean of Students at Pittsfield High School. In response to this matter, Mr. Wiggins has been placed on administrative leave effective immediately. Please know that we remain committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our students and staff. We have no other information at this time.

Both men were expected to appear in Springfield's federal court on Wednesday.
If found guilty, the charge of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute cocaine provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million.
