'Preparing for war': Suspect confesses to double murder in Woodward
WOODWARD, Okla. (KFOR) — Court documents reveal new details after a father and daughter were shot and killed in a Woodward Walmart parking lot last week.
"I was preparing for war." Those are the words 30-year-old Shane Allison told investigators as he confessed to shooting and killing 81-year-old Gary Mulbery and 42-year-old Christina Alewine.
Woodward Police say Allison, along with his mother, lived on Mulbery's property for some time.
"We have heard that his mother and Gary Mulberry were in a relationship, what we're hearing is that that relationship had ended or was going to be ending," said Captain Darren Navratil, Woodward Police Department
Allison told police that Mulbery planned to evict them.
"In fact, he had told people that he was planning on meeting with a lawyer to start that process on the fifth and of course the homicide happened on the fourth, so we think that's a big part of it," said Navratil.
On the day of the double murder, Allison decided to go with his mother, Mulbery and Alewine to Walmart.
"Which was out of character, from what we're hearing, he typically did not leave the property," said Navratil.
Allison told police he went "just to pop them both."
While Mulbery and Alewine were loading groceries into the car, Allison allegedly shot them both.
Police say Allison also had a bag that day filled with a sawed-off shotgun and rifle, along with a lot of ammunition.
A recent statement made by Allison shows he may have been planning to go after others.
"He made a statement about after killing them, wanting to go after African Americans in Woodward, whether or not that is truly what his goal was or if its just something he was saying, you know, we don't know, thankfully we got him before anyone else could get hurt," said Navratil.
Allison appeared in court Friday and was denied bond.
He was booked into the Woodward County Jail and faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of possession of sawed-off weapons.
Allison is due back in court January 3 for his preliminary hearing.
A memorial fund has also been set up at the Security State Bank in Laverne to help with funeral costs for the victims.
