Inside Kate Moss’ frenzied love life, including ‘nasty old rag’ jibes, toys on fire and being pulled into Depp v Heard
KATE Moss has been one half of so many “It” couples.
The supermodel from Croydon, who was scouted in an airport at just 14 years old, has had high-profile relationships with musicians, Hollywood actors, magazine editors and even aristocrats.
Her love life dwindled out of public interest in recent years after she shacked up with 37-year-old teetotal photographer and German aristocrat, Count Nikolai von Bismarck.
It seemed that 50-year-old Kate had found her Prince – or Count – Charming.
But now the couple have called it quits after nine years together, following rumours during the summer that the end was nigh.
A source said: “Kate and Nikolai have been on and off for months, and eventually Kate felt the time was right to move on and cut ties.
“She felt they were going on different journeys in life. And, at 50, Kate feels fabulous and like she wants to get back out there and have some fun in time for Christmas.
“Despite being 13 years her junior, Nikolai wants to enjoy a quieter life. He remains on his sober path and they just have increasingly different hobbies and wants.”
Pals even say that Kate has moved out of the couple’s London home.
This isn’t Kate’s first dance with heartbreak beneath the gaze of the public eye.

Johnny Depp
Perhaps Kate’s most defining relationship was that with Hollywood’s own Johnny Depp. The duo were regarded as the coolest couple on the planet in the Nineties.
In the 2014 book Champagne Supernova, Maureen Callahan described them as “the chicest, druggiest couple since Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg” and dubbed them “the epitome of cool”.
The couple dated for four years from 1994 to 1998 after meeting at Cafe Tabac bar and restaurant in New York. At the time, Depp was 31 and Kate was 20.
The pair led a lifestyle typical of Hollywood, jetting around the world together and were regularly spotted hanging out with other A-listers.

Kate Moss
It was a relationship that cemented Kate as one of – if not the – most famous models of all time, even if the couple were often caught rowing in the street and accused of trashing hotel rooms together.
When they called it quits due to Depp’s demanding work schedule, Kate was left utterly heartbroken.
“There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me,” she revealed in a 2012 Vanity Fair interview. “Johnny did for a bit.
“I believed what he said. Like if I said, ‘what do I do?’, he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left.
“I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!”
Over 20 years after their relationship ended, Kate was forced to speak in court on the defamation trial between Depp and his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Depp sued Heard for defamation over an opinion article she wrote for the Washington Post where she claimed she was a domestic abuse victim, though didn’t name him.
Kate was called by the actor’s team in the last week of the trial to rebut a rumour that suggested Depp had shoved her down the stairs in the Nineties.
In her brief testimony over video call, the model denied the rumour.
She said: “There had been a rainstorm and as I left the room I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back.
“He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.
“He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs.”
Antony Langdon
After her tumultuous relationship with Depp, Kate shacked up with Spacehog’s guitarist Antony Langdon.
The Leeds-born musician, now 56, was besotted with his new supermodel girlfriend.
So much so, that he bought her a ring after just three months together.
Young Kate, whose career was beginning to seriously rocket at the time, ultimately called it quits after a year because she wasn’t ready to commit.
Jefferson Hack
Following her second relationship in the public eye with rock guitarist Langdon, Kate began dating magazine editor Jefferson Hack in the early Noughties.
They met when he was interviewing her for a piece in Dazed and Confused magazine and it is widely reported that he set about wooing her after the chat.
Allegedly, his first words to the supermodel were: “You smell like pee.”
“Almost immediately afterwards, he went windsurfing in Spain with his father and brother,” the Daily Mail reported at the time.
“According to his mother, Kate and he ‘were on the phone to each other all the time’.”
The couple welcomed a daughter, Lila Moss (born Lila Grace Moss Hack), in September 2002, but split two years later. Their separation remained amicable though, with Hack attending her wedding to Jamie Hince in 2011.
Pete Doherty
A drug addict and troubled rock star with various appearances in rehab and court, Pete Doherty was an interesting choice for mum-of-one Kate in 2005.
She met The Libertines front man at her 31st birthday bash in January 2005, and soon afterwards he declared that he had “really found love”.
In September that year, photos and footage of Kate preparing cocaine emerged, leading to her being dropped by a number of fashion houses, which included her losing a £4 million deal with H&M.
It’s difficult to understate the scandal at the time. Here was our favourite model admitting she had “various personal issues I need to address”, while Pete failed to complete a stint in rehab in Arizona, USA.

“When Kate found out I hadn’t finished the treatment, she told me point-blank that that was it, there was no way we could see each other now,” Doherty revealed in his 2022 memoir, A Likely Lad.
“The split was all over the press.”
Kate was then quoted in The Mirror saying: “I wish I’d never met him. He’s a user in every sense of the word.”
The couple reunited, attended rehab together, rowed in public, got engaged and finally split in July 2007, all very much in public view.
At one point, Doherty called her a “nasty old rag” in an interview and said their relationship was like “the Vietnam war”.
He added in his memoir: “It was always the same, for all those years: highs and then crushing, violent lows. It was not sustainable.”
Also in the tome, Doherty accused Kate of dousing his beloved teddy bear in petrol and setting it on fire.
“There was one final big old kick-off,” he wrote. “Kate desecrated this 1930s Gibson I had, smashed it up.
“Then she covered this teddy bear of mine, called Pandy, in petrol and set him alight – it’s not funny. I used to carry him around London with me.”
Jamie Hince
Shortly after the end of her relationship with Doherty, Kate reportedly started dating guitarist Jamie Hince in 2007 after they were set up by mutual friends.
A year later, she announced they had become engaged during a trip to Amsterdam.
At the time, The Sun reported Hince proposed to her in bed with a vintage 1920s ring worth more than £10,000.
The couple wed on July 1, 2011 at a glitzy countryside ceremony in Gloucestershire, but separated in July 2015 and announced their divorce a year later.
The couple finalised their split in a quiet out of court settlement in 2016.
Showbiz insiders told The Mirror that they agreed things between themselves as “neither of them wanted to make a spectacle of this”.
It appears that, following her high-profile relationship and split with Doherty in the Noughties, Kate was taking a different approach to managing heartache under the gaze of the public eye.
She was believed to have kept the majority of their combined wealth, having gone into the marriage with more money than rocker Jamie.
Nikolai von Bismarck
Kate and aristocrat Count Nikolai von Bismarck were family friends for four years before getting together in 2015.
The Count went sober in 2017 and Kate – once dubbed Late Moss by pals for her love of all-nighters – gave up booze a year later.
In January, they celebrated Kate’s 50th in Paris despite reports they were no longer dating.
In recent months, the supermodel has been seen enjoying nights out while her former beau was enjoying being out of the limelight.
