Extraordinary stat shows the major flaw in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham
The Athletic reporter Colin Millar reveals an extraordinary stat about Tottenham’s record under Ange Postecoglou, providing that as the reason why the Australian should not garner any praise for his philosophy.
Ange Postecoglou will not change his methods
Tottenham suffered their seventh defeat of the season against Chelsea on Sunday, a result which saw them pushed to the bottom half of the table.
Despite the loss, Postecoglou predictably insisted that his approach will not change and even suggested that his side ‘played well’ in parts and where let down by a lack of discipline.
This claim has not gone down well with some pundits, with the likes of Jamie Carragher blasting the Tottenham boss and remarking that he will not be in the job for long if he does not adapt.
Colin Millar provides ‘extraordinary’ stat
While some Spurs fans are keeping faith in Postecoglou to turn this around, the results over the last year do not show any signs of a team that is suddenly going to become consistent.
Sky Sports revealed after the game that Tottenham have kept just one clean sheet in their last 22 Premier League home matches.
Millar also took to social media to point out that the defeat against Chelsea was Tottenham’s 19th defeat in their last 40 Premier League games – an almost 50 per cent loss record.
Daniel Levy cannot afford another failed project
While Levy has been trigger-happy in the past when it comes to firing managers, the Spurs chairman now faces a huge dilemma.
A lot of the supporters are understandably pointing the finger at him and the club’s hierarchy rather than the manager, and the pressure on the Spurs chairman will only intensify if another of his manager appointments fails.
Additionally, it is also clear that sacking Postecoglou would not be a popular decision in the Tottenham dressing room, with the players still seemingly behind the head coach.
