Red Sox Fans Will Have Mixed Emotions About This Prediction From MLB Insider
The Boston Red Sox already went through one rollercoaster ride in the Juan Soto sweepstakes. They very well could end up in another race against a familiar bidder.
ESPN’s Jorge Castillo predicted entering the Winter Meetings that Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet would indeed be traded after months of speculation. As far as teams, Castillo placed that race between the Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
The storied rivals both missed out on Soto and appear poised to make an impactful splash in response to improve their rosters within the American League East. New York already has its ace Gerrit Cole, and the Red Sox need a leader to join the foundation of Brayan Bello, Tanner Houck, Lucas Giolito and Kutter Crawford.
Crochet stands out as the top trade target when it comes to starting pitchers and has the stuff to lead a big-league rotation as long as his durability increases with his next team. Andrew Bailey has the coaching ability to get that out of him should the Red Sox pull off the blockbuster trade.
