Man Utd now very interested in signing £58m UCL star, tracking him for long time - report
Manchester United are most interested in signing one of Sporting CP’s best players, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.
The Red Devils have had a good start under manager Ruben Amorim and they have picked up two wins and one draw from the first three games.
Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford have all led the line. The trio have scored seven goals between themselves in those outings.
Despite this, United are aiming to bolster the centre-forward department and they have reportedly identified Viktor Gyokeres as the main target.
The Mancunian giants were already monitoring him prior to Amorim’s appointment. They are ‘most interested’ in landing his signature from Sporting CP.
Gyokeres has a release clause worth £83 million in his contract, but Sporting CP are open to selling him for £58m up front with performance bonuses.
United could swoop for Gyokeres due to Amorim
The 26-year-old had a sensational debut campaign with Sporting CP. He netted 43 goals and provided 15 assists from 50 appearances across all competitions.
Gyokeres has replicated the showing in the early part of the ongoing season. He has accumulated 24 goals and four assists from 21 games for the Lisbon outfit.
His consistency has caught the eye of several clubs including Manchester City and Barcelona, but United could have the upper hand with Amorim at the helm.
The club were tracking Gyokeres prior to the manager’s arrival, but the 39-year-old’s presence should hand them a huge boost in signing the talented marksman.
With a price tag of £58m up front, it appears a no-brainer decision to sign him. He is close to becoming a complete striker as he can link-up play apart from scoring.
Amorim got the best out of him at Sporting CP and a reunion could be on the cards. If he were to join the club this summer, Joshua Zirkzee could be shown the exit door.
